Writing a resume for education & childcare roles

Education and childcare resumes are read by two different screens: automated district and group systems that parse for credentials, and humans — principals, directors, centre managers — who check licence, qualifications, and classroom evidence first. Put registration, teaching licence, or Working With Children Check status at the top, with the exact wording the issuing body uses.

Classroom work quantifies better than most teachers expect: class sizes, caseloads, pass rates, growth percentiles, students per term, grants won. In childcare, ratios and room leadership are the equivalent — numbers that instantly signal capability.

Both fields have a shared professional language that your resume should speak explicitly: the Early Years Learning Framework in childcare, curriculum and assessment vocabulary in teaching. Naming the framework and mirroring the posting's wording is how structured shortlisting scores you correctly.

Each example below includes a full sample resume, a section-by-section guide, and skills phrasing where O*NET ratings are available. structured shortlisting means your resume is scored, not read. Panels award points against the person specification or qualification framework line by line, so mirror that structure: if the listing lists 'behaviour management' as essential, that phrase appears in your experience section with an example attached. Write for the scoring sheet first and the human second — the human only reads what the scoring sheet surfaces.

Finally, keep the document current with the frameworks it names: the EYLF is periodically updated, qualifications frameworks change RTO requirements, and hiring panels notice a candidate whose resume names the current version. The annual refresh habit that keeps your registration current should also touch this file — fifteen minutes, once a year.
