Tradie resumes in Australia need to be highly practical. Keep it to 1-2 pages. Put your licences (e.g., White Card, High Risk Work Licence, trade qualifications) at the very top under your summary. Employers care more about your tickets, site safety record, and specific tools/machinery experience than long paragraphs.
Front-load your tickets and licences
In the trades, your qualifications are often a hard requirement for site entry. Don't bury your White Card or trade certificate at the bottom of page two. Create a dedicated 'Licences & Tickets' section right below your summary.
List the exact name of the ticket, the issuing body (if relevant), and the expiry date. If you hold a High Risk Work Licence, specify the classes (e.g., EWP, Forklift, Dogging) clearly.
If you have specialized inductions for major sites or companies (like a BHP core induction or specific rail corridor access), list those prominently as well.
Focusing your work history on projects and tools
When describing your past jobs, focus on the types of projects you worked on (commercial, residential, civil, industrial) and the specific tools or machinery you used.
Instead of just saying 'Installed electrical wiring,' say 'Completed rough-in and fit-out for a 12-story commercial high-rise, operating scissor lifts and interpreting complex schematics.'
Always mention your adherence to WHS/OHS protocols. If you've been the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or have never had a lost-time injury (LTI), make sure that is written down.
Keep it simple and readable
Site managers review resumes on their phones or quickly scan printed copies in the site office. Use a clean, black-and-white format. Avoid complex graphics, headshots, or multiple columns.
