Hospitality & Bartender Resume Example & Writing Guide

Hospitality moves fast, and so does the hiring process. Venue managers want to see that you have your mandatory certificates and the flexibility to work nights and weekends. A resume that clearly shows you are legally allowed to pour a beer and are available on a Saturday night will beat a highly experienced resume that obscures this information.

Regional Formatting Standards

In the Australian hospitality sector, managers scan resumes in seconds. Your RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) and RCG (Responsible Conduct of Gambling) certificates must be listed at the absolute top, right under your contact info. Clearly state your visa work rights (if applicable) and your exact weekly availability, as shift flexibility is often more important than years of experience.

Put RSA and RCG front and center

Without an RSA, you cannot work in a licensed venue in Australia. Don't hide this at the bottom of page two. Put it in bold at the top of your resume.

If you are applying in NSW, ensure you mention you have a valid Competency Card. If you hold an RCG (gaming), list that too, as venues with pokies will heavily prioritize dual-ticketed staff.

State your availability clearly

The biggest headache for a hospitality roster manager is staff availability. Add a line right below your summary that says 'Availability: Fully flexible, including late nights and weekends' or list your specific available days.

If you are on a Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417/462) or a Student Visa (Subclass 500), state your work rights clearly (e.g., 'Student Visa - available 48 hours per fortnight').

Quantify the venue volume

Working at a quiet café is different from working at a 500-capacity nightclub. Quantify your experience: mention the venue capacity, the average number of covers per night, or the till revenue you handled.

Use numbers like 'managed a section of 12 tables', 'poured up to 200 cocktails per shift', or 'trained 4 junior staff members'.

Key takeaways

Put your RSA/RCG certificates at the very top

List your exact weekly availability prominently

State your visa work rights clearly if applicable

Quantify venue capacity, covers, or sales volume

Highlight your POS system experience (e.g., H&L, Square, Tyro)
